WHERE I COME FROM

As a passionate contributor to community outreach and civil engagement, I have spent countless hours as an advocate for workers’ rights. I have aided nonprofit organizations on behalf of a large scope of healthcare issues, supporting equal rights for all, fundraising and addressing food deserts across the city. My experience as a founding member and former Vice President of a union, placed me in a position to build a rapport with community organizations and politicians based on my solution driven partnerships as a leader in various negotiations. Then and now, I support the causes that are most important to the working public such as: access to quality healthcare, respectable living wage, affordable housing, safe working conditions and expanding the budget for post high school education.

In 2010, situations aligned at Temple University Hospital, which established an audience comprised of political and community advocates which lead to an investment in the community through a joint venture at E3 Logan Power Center with me as the liaison. The outreach increased the group’s understanding of our diverse careers and allowed our members to enhance their educational experience. As a non-traditionally educated person, it has been my goal to share how trade programs can enrich a person’s life and provide a higher-than-expected lifestyle. Collaboration with Senators Shirley Kitchen and Mark Cohen to provide diabetic evaluations and social services information to constituents during community health fairs was nurtured as the result of a successful campaign. In 2016, Earth Day Network subcontracted Galaxy Enterprise. From the adventure I was tasked with educating a neighborhood on decreasing educational resources, food deserts created by the closing of local markets and the lack of quality recycle station. The positive work of the campaign increased my responsibilities to executive producer of a service announcement (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=khTaCQo9ZEA) that was very successful with its message.)

A THRIVING CAREER

In 2018, Temple University Allied Health Professionals elected me as the first Political and Community Engagement Chair for the local. With my leadership, we have continued to participate in various occasions and become contributors in public actions such as: health fairs, community events, fundraisers, grocery giveaways, and constituent informational meetings with political leads former-Councilperson Cherelle Parker, former-Councilperson Helen Gym, Councilperson Isiah Thomas, State Representatives (Stephen Kinsey, Darisha Parker, and Regina Young), Senator Shariff Street, and the most affected area of our outreach and resources has been the district of current State Representative Danilo Burgos

Subsequently, I joined organizations whose missions and values bridge the gap between various community-based organizations in order to create positive change in the community.  My participation exposed me to various cultural difficulties and encouraged me to join the coalition to support disadvantaged individuals on the spectrum. I hold membership and leadership roles with: A. Philip Randolph Institute  (APRI) Philadelphia Chapter, Coalition of Black Trade Unionist (CBTU) Southeastern PA, Greater Philadelphia Chapter, Board Member of the Coalition of Labor Union Women (CLUW) Philadelphia Chapter, Secretary-Treasurer of Working Family Partnership (WFP) Philadelphia Chapter, Vice President of the National Organization for Women (NOW) and Political Action Committee Member Philadelphia Chapter and the Chair of the Advisory Board for Community Hero Action Group.

Overall, my goal is to obtain a position which allows my compassion for the community to flourish and pour the years of experience from hospital technologist, political liaison, community engagement, and union founder into a viable asset to the City of Philadelphia. Using my skills of mediation during complex negotiation, leadership over various economic differences and finances, fundraising for
